Every summer we start a discussion on this topic.  How do you keep yourself busy in the slow summer selling season?

Do you practice your golf game?  Do you get caught up on planning and paperwork?

How do you handle the summer time selling blues?

Summer is a slow time for dental eq, but not for my fishing vessel. It's tuna time!! Gotta head down to the boat and finish fixing the WX weather system. Seems there is always something to fix on a boat. Then update my nav program, then come back to the office and pay the bills. Let's see Bat charger, Inverter #1, WX weather, and Coastal navigator update, and that has just been in the last week.
Now if it would quit blowin we could go catch some fish!! Who ever got the bright idea to put computers and electronics on salt water boats, they are just not very compatible, yet can't live without em. My wheelhouse looks like an electronics store exploded and left all the pieces embedded in the overhead.
Lets see..... 5 radios, 2 bottom machines, autopilot, radar, 2 GPS, Computer, 2 battery chargers, 3 battery banks, 2 inverters, 30KW genset, stereo, XM, TV, cell phones, and I'm sure I'm leaving a few things out. And MOST of the time it all works.
It is usually slow - but this month has been jam packed busy! However, 80% of my accounts take off on Fridays, so I end up using the morning to get caught up on paperwork, go on a few appointments, and then head off to the beach for the weekend! Delaware has some great beach towns and my in-laws happen to have an ice cream store on the boardwalk. Great excuse to get down and get some rays!
In the summer time, I work the same schedule that I do the rest of the year. My clients like the consistency, and besides--I can get into my competitor's clients while they're out golfing!
Work even smarter. Maybe not some of the real long driving trips, but do two days work in one day if that many customers are out - it doesn't take longer. Usually I make note of who I missed or played tag with throughout the summer and save some days in late August to double them up on extra call/contact. They do appreciate the effort to bend around their schedule. Have to admit I do my best work when its really busy.
