Yes, I have only been in Chicago 6 years, and I have already left two dentists for promoting unnecessary or inappropriate work! Both wanted to drill or remove tooth structure in areas in which there were NO cavities. I did have some staining.
The first dentist was just plain bad. I made an appointment for a Dr. that was recommended, and they transferred my appointment to a different dentists. The other dentist should have known better, because I was in the industry! I had enough with him when he charged me $40 for a silly fluoride rinse.
In many cases, hygienists are just as bad as dentists, but I think dentists are a bit worse because they lead the team.
P.S. My current dentist is on the cover of the lovely AAWD insert recently published by AEGIS Communications! She's great.
My current dentist is very conservative. He would rather wait until the next appt. to make a move on something that is questionable than dig right in and drill. I feel very comfortable that he is looking out for my best interest. He is not inexpensive, but I think I have saved money in the long run because I didn't have any unnecessary procedures.
