Dentist is found guilty of Medical Waste Ocean dumping

Surburban Philly dentist is found guilty of dumping medical waste in Avalon, NJ.  The big question is why?  A #37 inverted cone bur and some freebies from Accuject were the clue that lead to his capture.   A blast from the past.  I remember this story from 2008.

Wow, just wow. Personally I think his fine and probation is to lenient. I am not a tree-hugger by any means but throwing your used waste into the ocean? What was he thinking? So many other options, I would love to know what his "reason" for going through all that trouble was. What made him say.. I think throwing away approximately 260 dental needles, 180 cotton swabs, a number of blue and white plastic capsules into the ocean would be a good idea.

We have a river near my house that I frequently use for kayaking. One of the local doctors a few years back was dumping some of their needles in waste in the river. It has taken years of cleaning and still being constantly cleaned by county and locals. The idea of having to be "nervous" of stepping on a needle lodged in a rock from this mess is disturbing..

People really need to be responsible with their trash, ESPECIALLY biological trash. What if a small child were to have stepped on it?

Like you said.. the big question is why? What would be the motivation?
The last time I was at the Jersey Shore, it was absolutely disgusting- the garbage barges from New York often drop piles of "you name it" while in transit, and a lot of it simply washed up on the beaches. I imagine this guy figured, "who would notice?". Some guys are simply too cheap to do the right thing. Probably made his hygienists re-use prophy cups, too.
Hmm..... Let's do the math.

Cost to legally dispose of red bag waste....................50.00

Boat fuel cost to dump red bag in the ocean.............100.00

Getting fined 100K for illegal dumping......................Priceless

And I would bet the waste haulers accept Mastercard
