Does anyone know what happened to Robin Dental ? It use to be a Dental Equipment manufacturer in the 80's and 90's . I googled the name not much showed up. The last address I could find was on Darby Commons Ct. so I guess that means they were purchased by Darby ? A corporate search has turned up nothing . As diverse as DSP is I am sure someone out there must have knowledge . Also is it still a well recognized name in the industry or just old timers like me !
Just us old timers. Robin is long gone. Bob Sherman passed away about 8 years ago. Bob was partners with Russ Parry in Marus Dental. Bob was a 'silent' partner in Marus. He marketed Marus products under the Robin Dental name for many years. Bob sold Robin Dental to San Fransisco Dental a few months b4 his passing. He learned after the fact that San Francisco Dental was in fact Schein, Bob always said he would never sell out to Schein. I miss Bob, he was truly a great guy.
Thanks for the info. I do remember Bob Sherman from dental meetings many years ago. I am in the process of forming a new corp. and have been considering several different names. I wonder what Bob would think ? Hopefully he would pass on some of his good karma. Do you know why he named it Robin Dental ?
Have no clue as to the origin of the name. don't know how 'available' the Robin name is since being bought by Schein. I would do some careful research before jumping in with the name, just in case they still own it.
I will do that if we decide to use the name. Its just one of many names I am considering . Thanks for your input .
PS. Nice fish ! What kind is it ? I was attending a dental seminar in Seattle and fished in Puget Sound . Caught some strange fish for a Florida native !
Hi Robin,
The fish is a 25 lb. Albacore tuna. Picture was taken about 100 miles off the Oregon coast, we caught about 400 of em that day. B4 anyone freaks out, yes it is a commercial fishing boat. Catching tuna like that is the most fun you can have with your clothes on! We will start tuna this year in a couple a three weeks. We are fishing Salmon right now, Salmon is just about over with this year, looking forward to Tuna. I like going out for tuna cuz we are out far enough that the cell phone don't work!
Wow ! Sounds like a lot of work . I watch too many "Deadliest Catch" shows to be brave enough to travel that far off the Oregon coast. Do you go out of that inlet the Coast Guard uses for training ? I was in the Coast Guard in my younger days . Rode out 3 hurricanes , but the water was warm and we could survive for days if needed. Not like that NW region.
I'm located on the Homosassa River on the west coast of Fl. We catch Reds, Spotted Sea Trout, Cobia , Tarpon, etc. Watched some Tarpon rolling last night off the dock. I am happy just running out to the Gulf of Mexico in my flats boat and catch a couple of fish for dinner. Kinda boring compared to what you are doing out there. However if you are in Fl look me up and we can swap some fish stories. I'll just have to make up some lies to compete ! LOL....
Yup, that inlet is actually the Mighty Columbia, which forms the border between OR and WA. Coast Guard station Cape Disapointment is the National motor lifeboat school. My boat is parked a few hundred yards from there when I last looked at my VMS. We have survival suits on board for that cold water, survival time without one varies from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the time of year/water temp. We do safety drills which include donning survival suits. Your best bet is to stay out of the water LOL. I've had a few anxious moments out there, never have put the survival suit on for real, hope I never have to!!! It's funny I have had a couple of friends ask me if I wished to be buried at sea when my time comes. Uhhh.... no I've spent my life trying to stay out of that water, thank you very much!
You do commercial fishing so Y R U still in the dental field ? Have you seen the retail price for wild salmon ? I'm sure Tuna is not much less !
When I moved to Homosassa I thought I would get a commercial license for Stone Crabs. I quickly learned these are passed down through families for generations and someone has to die for you to get a license. They sell for about 8 to 20 dollars a pound , but they are delicious ! They only harvest the claws and let the crab go to grow new ones.
If we keep the fish stories going DSP will kick us off this site ! LOL.. Or we could start one like this and call it fishstories.com
We are getting good bucks for Salmon, now if they would let us catch them..... Tuna is another story, last year we got 1200 dollars a ton, gonna be hard to buy the fuel to go catch em this year, unless we get a better price, and don't have to run so far for them.
Dental pays the bills! To make a small fortune in commercial fishing you start with a large one. What can I say It's in my blood and the truth be told it is the oldest profession in the world.
I am finally going to get more time with the boat after being an absentee owner for the last 5 years. But mainly more time with the grandkids. Don't get any better than that.
Make that the 2nd oldest profession ! LOL.. Be careful out there, keep the painted (bottom) side pointed down ! My grandkids are 7 and 11. Lots of fun, they still think grandpa is cool ! Ha , I'll enjoy that as long as it lasts !
